I was never a very good slap bass player. Since coming back to the bass after seven years away, I am even worse. Nevertheless, I regularly get the fever for really good funk/slap bass music. The only cure for that fever is a healthy dose of Level 42 and their bassist Mark King.
Like the rest of North America, I discovered Level 42 when their hit song “Something About You” invaded our radio airwaves in 1985. They were kind of a “one hit wonder” in the States but in the 1990s I went back and purchased most of their back catalog on CD. Their 1985 release A Physical Presence is still one of my favorite live albums.
This song is “Dive Into the Sun” from their 2006 album Retroglide.
